Ok, we all have those recipes we grew up eating and will always love. My meaty cream of mushroom sauce recipe is my chef’s spin on a classic. The classic utilizes many canned ingredients and is what I personally make for my kids. But on occasion, you want to “class things up” a little and make it from scratch! So I have provided you with both because why not. I love both and use both just pick the time and place. I’ll let you decide what will become the staple in your home.

  • pasta (noodles, shells, macaroni, etc…)
  • bread (rolls, sliced, waffles, or crepes)

  • 1 can Cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 lb. Ground Beef
  • 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 can Green Beans
  • 2 cups Rice

Directions

  • In a large sauté pan brown meat and season with salt and pepper.
  • Pour in the cream of mushroom soup (add the water or milk till desired consistency)
  • Drain the green beans and stir into a creamy soup mixture.
  • Heat through and serve over steamed rice.

Now as an adult I have taken this classic staple and elevated it to please the pickiest of eaters. I know this dish will warm your heart and fill your bellies!

        • sauté pan

        Ingredients
          

        4-5 Mushrooms Sliced

          1 Shallot diced

            3 Oz. Unsalted Butter Room temp.

              1 Lemon Cut in half for juicing

                1 can Green beans fresh or canned work

                  1 Pt. Heavy cream

                    5 Oz. Sweet Italian sausage Whatever you have on hand

                      Instructions
                       

                      In a large sauté pan brown meat and season with salt and pepper, set aside.

                        If using fresh green beans steam or sauté till al-dente and set aside. (this may be an unpopular opinion, but I love canned green beans so do not feel bad if you want to use those in the future)

                          In the same pan melt butter with a splash of oil Saute shallots till fragrant. Add mushrooms with a squeeze of lemon juice and salt.

                            Once the mushrooms and shallots are caramelized add in the ground meat, heavy cream and fresh thyme bring to a simmer, and reduce till thickened. Then add in the green beans to heat through.

                              Serve over rice.
